Over the course of six days, and as the strategic partner of Dubai Design Week, the Dubai Design District opened its doors to a variety of live and digital events, performances and discussions, including the "Regional Architecture Forum", which was held in partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the Gulf Region branch.
The Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI), the knowledge center of excellence in the Dubai Design District, in partnership with the startup incubator in5 Design, has provided visitors with a range of creative designs and works.
Emphasizing the importance of the event, Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Youth, visited the Dubai Design District, on a tour of outdoor facilities and exhibitions. The tour included the "Please Sit Hear" exhibition dedicated to outdoor seating that takes into account social distancing, and its exhibits were created by three designers. Architecture Forum
The first architecture forum in the emirate of Dubai opened new horizons for the Dubai Design District. The Regional Architecture Forum, which is held in partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIPA), the Gulf Region branch, included a range of digital and real events, including direct dialogues. Workshops with leading architects in the region, as well as a live exhibition presenting the works of 39 participants from the GCC.
"3DEdit" Exhibition
For its part, the "3D Edit" mini-exhibition shed light on the various innovations in the Dubai Design District community, and included innovative works submitted by companies, brands and designers.
The multidisciplinary exhibition included the creations of the jewelry designer Nadine Kanso, Iwan Maktabi, a carpet expert from a family that has practiced this art for three generations, and the Lebanese architect Fadi Seri El-Din, in addition to an exclusive collaboration from Hands Carpets between nine designers from nine countries in the five continents of the world. .
Made in In5
With the aim of highlighting the contribution of the startup community to the innovation economy, the exhibition "Made in in5" brought together a variety of products designed at the in5 Design Center, using the latest creative facilities and innovative manufacturing methods.
The prototyping labs feature laser cutters, 3D printers and carpentry workshops.
Dubai Institute students
The Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, the region's only design and innovation university, concluded its eventful participation in Dubai Design Week.
Six student projects were selected from the list of candidates for participation (MENA Grad Show) via the Internet, with two projects participating in the “Global Grad Show” online.
Amal Hassan Al-Suwaidi displayed the "Shimless" collection of clothes designed using biodegradable materials to support work in the face of climate change.
Sanaa Mohamed launched her project "Inner Voice", which is a computer mouse that processes sounds, detects human sensations using skin sensors, and plays soft music.
The students of the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation: Alhan Ahmed, Abdulaziz Al-Zamil, and Heba Naji revealed "roots", a substance that is naturally biodegradable, extracted from date seeds.
Ilhan also independently fired the AIPO lamp, a light that allows people to communicate, express themselves and seek help.
Zeina Ahmed Issa also demonstrated "Hugo", an inflatable robot that interacts with humans, while Nikhilish Mohan presented a "Nexus" device, which translates the colors of paintings into sounds, to allow the blind an opportunity to hear what the paintings say.
