Why this book?

  • Because this new volume will immerse you in the middle of World War

II in the daily life of a small American town with a lot of realism and pragmatism: ration coupons, women at work, departure of sons for Germany, runaway family sawmill as part of the war effort.

History has never seemed so alive since the beginning of the series!

  • Because the reader takes pleasure in following the new generation

of the Caskey family, a character he has seen emerge little by little.

New dynamics, new challenges: the coming of age of these characters brings a lot of freshness to the plot!

This new generation also allows the author to show the very slow evolution of the mores of the time, by showing in particular women who work and emancipate themselves in this way.

  • Because fantasy is always present, and always skilfully

mixed with horror and trash: Michael McDowell has a sense of proportion and never overdoes it.

The mystery remains present, despite some answers… We will note in passing that the worst scenes are the work of a character who could not be more human, as what monsters are not always those we believe!

  • Because we still admire the superb craftsmanship

of this powerful family saga: each cover is a true work of art!
