It is a highlight in the annual calendar of the FAZ and after the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, there is finally another live event on site: On May

6th,

the FAZ invites its readers to the

"Between the Lines" congress in Frankfurt

.

As in previous years, top-class guests have announced themselves for the one-day event in “Kap Europa” – this year the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, led the way.

.

The Commission President, who recently traveled to Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will speak live from Brussels on Russia's war of aggression and the future of Europe.

She will then answer questions from FAZ editor Berthold Kohler.

Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser

talks to Interior Policy Chief Jasper von Altenbockum about the threats to Germany's security.

Former

US General Ben Hodges

looks at what is happening in Ukraine from the perspective of a seasoned military man.

Caritas President Eva Maria Welskop-Deffaa

answers the consequences of the war and the flight of hundreds of thousands of people to Germany

.

Another focus of the FAZ Congress, the full program of which can be accessed here and for which the last tickets are still available, is the ever-increasing inflation in Germany.

In an interview with publisher Gerald Braunberger, the

new President of the Bundesbank, Joachim Nagel

, explains how high inflation could still rise - and how monetary policy can slow down the price increase, which is painful for consumers.

The successor to Jens Weidmann at the helm of the Bundesbank has so far only made a few public appearances in his new role and will be performing live in Frankfurt.

Visitors can also find out very practically how they can protect their money from high inflation:

investment advisor and FAZ columnist Volker Looman

has announced that he will be speaking.

A special bonus: he will be on stage with his wife Corinna Salander and talk about "Love and Money".

Of course, the corona pandemic also occupies many people - and will not be neglected at the event.

The well-known

virologist Sandra Ciesek

will comment on the current development, as will the President of the Robert Koch Institute, Lothar Wieler.

However, the program is not limited to the major crises of the time.

The publishers and editors of the FAZ talk to prominent, bright minds from culture, sport, business and the region about the most important developments and challenges in their social area.

Crime author Matthias Altenburg aka Jan Seghers

answers questions from publisher Jürgen Kaube,

Lufthansa boss Carsten Spohr

discusses with publisher Carsten Knop how the group will continue after the pandemic and

ex-biathlete Erik Lesser

explains why athletes should open their mouths more.

The readers also get insights into the work of the FAZ editorial team in Frankfurt and their correspondents all over the world, who are connected to Frankfurt.
