The Belgian ambassador apologized for another ten days later, and the ambassador's wife attended the police on the 6th and was investigated, but if the ambassador's wife did not give up the diplomatic immunity privilege, criminal punishment and civil lawsuits were difficult.
But today (28th), the Belgian embassy in Korea announced in a statement that at the request of the Korean police, the ambassador's wife had given up the diplomatic immunity privilege.
The Ambassador Rescuie is also scheduled to be replaced this summer.
The embassy said that the incident "it has become clear that it is no longer difficult for Ambassador Rescuie to perform the role of ambassador smoothly."
However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "Belgium has been informed that it has given up its immunity privilege only in the police investigation part," and "I understand that it does not include trial and punishment."
An official from the Yongsan Police Department, who is investigating the case, said, "I will not call the ambassador's wife additionally," and said, "If the waiver of the immunity privilege is officially confirmed, we will review whether to send the prosecution."
