Obertilliach (dpa) - The German junior biathlete Philipp Lipowitz has surprisingly become junior world champion in individual.

The 21-year-old from DAV Ulm prevailed on Sunday in Obertilliach, Austria, after 15 kilometers with just one shooting error and eleven seconds ahead of the Slovenian Alex Cisar.

Lipowitz gave the German Ski Association the first medal in the fourth race of the Junior World Championships, which will last until next Saturday.
