The Sheikh Zayed Book Award at the Abu Dhabi Center for Arabic Language, affiliated to the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, announced the short lists in the "Young Author", "Child and Adolescent Literature" and "Literature" branches in its 15th session.

The list included nine works from Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Tunisia, Palestine and Lebanon, and female writers accounted for the largest share in these lists, with seven works out of nine.

The short list of the “Young Author” section included three works selected out of 14 works from the long list, while the short list of the “Child and Young Adult Literature” section included three works out of the 13 works from the long list, while the “Literature” branch witnessed the selection of three works. For publication in 2020, and the novel “The Ghoul and the Blackberry Plant” by Emirati writer Nusseibeh Al-Azibi, which was published by Dar Ashjar for publishing and distribution in 2019.

The short list of the “Young Author” section includes two novels and one study, as it included the novel “The Night of Yalda” by the Egyptian author Ghada Al-Absi, published in 2018 by Dar Al-Tanweer for printing, publishing and distribution, and the novel “What I Left Behind” by the Palestinian writer Shatha Mustafa, which was published by Dar Hachett Antoineum / Nofal in 2020, and finally, a critical study entitled “Problems of the Self Narrated in the Saudi Feminist Novel - A Critical Study (1999-2012)” by Saudi researcher Asma Muqbel Awad Al-Ahmadi, and this study was published by the Arab Science Publishers in 2020.

It is worth noting that the “Young Author” branch received during the current session 646 participants, which is an increase of approximately 30% compared to the previous session, while the “Literature” branch witnessed an increase in the number of nominations by approximately 33%, bringing the number of nominations in this branch to 584 nominations in the current session The “Child and Young Adult Literature” branch received 244 works, an increase of nearly 19% compared to the last session.

The award will announce the short lists of its other subsidiaries over the next few weeks.

The 15th session of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award is the largest in the history of the award in terms of the number of nominations, as the award received 2,349 nominations for its nine branches this year, a percentage that exceeded 23% compared to the previous session.

The winners will be honored during a virtual ceremony in May, coinciding with the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, where the winner of the title of "Cultural Personality of the Year" will be honored and given a "gold medal" bearing the award logo and a certificate of appreciation, in addition to a sum of one million dirhams, while the winners will receive The other branches receive a "gold medal" and a "certificate of appreciation", and a prize money of 750 thousand dirhams.
