Hamburg / Offenbach (dpa / lno) - According to a balance sheet by the German Weather Service (DWD), the year 2020 was above average in Hamburg.

At eleven degrees Celsius, the mean temperature in the Hanseatic city was more than two degrees above the mean value of the internationally valid reference period 1961 to 1990, as the weather service based in Offenbach announced on Wednesday.

It has never been as hot as 2020 in the Hanseatic city since recording began in August. In addition, Hamburg had the wettest February since measurements began.

According to the DWD, this year was the second warmest in Germany since records began.

«The scientific climate facts of the national weather service are alarming.

Climate protection is the order of the day.

We have to act now, ”said DWD Climate Director Tobias Fuchs.

Accordingly, the very sunny 2020 was the third dry year in a row.
