Les Sables-d'Olonne / France (dpa) - circumnavigator Boris Herrmann moved up to second place at the beginning of the last Vendée Globe week.
With around 2200 nautical miles to the start and finish port of Les Sables-d'Olonne, the Hamburg-based driver recently achieved the fastest intermediate times and is now in the race with good prospects.
“Second feels good for morale, but I don't have a firm booking for a podium.
This is of course my dream, my goal, but by no means safe, ”said the 39-year-old on Thursday.

Experts expect the top group, led by “Apivia” skipper Charlie Dalin from France, to arrive at the finish on January 27th.

As a result of the successful rescue mission for Kevin Escoffier, whose boat broke up on November 30th, three skippers had received reparations for their participation: Boris Herrmann (6 hours), fourth-placed Yannick Bestaven (10:15 hours) and Jean Le Cam (16 :15 hours).
These bonuses are deducted from the total sailing times at the finish and can have a corresponding influence on the final placements.
