Hanover (dpa / lni) - In order to make faster progress with the corona vaccinations, the vaccination centers in Lower Saxony and Bremen are to increase their capacities.

The Ministry of Health in Hanover announced on request that around 120 vaccination teams are currently in use in Lower Saxony, and 200 teams will be in action in the future.

The service is to be adjusted to the announced vaccine deliveries.

In the federal state of Bremen up to 2500 people can be vaccinated per day.

The three vaccination centers - two in the city of Bremen, one in the city of Bremerhaven - will be expanded by the beginning of April.

"The capacities in the state of Bremen can thus be expanded to a maximum of 17,000 vaccinations per day," said the spokesman for the health department, Lukas Fuhrmann.

In Lower Saxony, almost 17,000 vaccinations were last injected in one day.

Up to 20,000 vaccinations per day would be possible with the available resources in the 50 vaccination centers.

"There is still room for improvement," said a ministry spokesman.

From March, the vaccination numbers should be significantly higher.

The vice-head of the Corona crisis team, Claudia Schröder, had recently said: "We vaccinate everything that we receive in the form of vaccines, promptly."

This also applies to Astrazeneca.
