Dresden (dpa / sn) - In Saxony, more than 2500 vaccination appointments are still free this week.
The vaccinations with the Astrazeneca product cause problems, which is not suitable for people over 65 and is therefore intended for medical staff and outpatient nurses, as Kai Kranich from the German Red Cross Saxony said on Thursday.
"We suspect that this target group is not yet sufficiently informed that there are free dates for them."
It is a challenge to find those whose turn it is now and who have not yet received an offer, stressed Kranich.

The DRK Saxony does not rule out that there is also uncertainty because of the lower effectiveness of the Astrazeneca vaccine.
The Astrazeneca preparation is less effective than the agents from Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna - based on how many vaccinated people fall ill in studies compared to non-vaccinated people.
In 50 out of 1000 cases in Saxony, this vaccine was rejected, as Kranich explained.
Saxony had already announced on Wednesday that it would work with the federal government to ensure that educators, teachers and employees of the public health service are vaccinated with the Astrazeneca corona vaccine faster than planned.

The vector-based Astrazeneca agent is an important component in the vaccination strategy in the EU, as it is comparatively cheap and has fewer requirements in terms of transport and storage than the vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna.
