"The purpose of the meeting is to determine whether there are points of contact between the parties, on the basis of which it would be possible to come to a long-term solution to the Cyprus problem in the foreseeable future," TASS quoted his press secretary Stephen Dujarrik as saying.

The format provides for the participation in such meetings of the leaders of the Greek and Turkish communities of the island;

Foreign Ministers of Great Britain, Greece and Turkey, who are considered the powers - guarantors of the independence, territorial integrity and security of Cyprus;

as well as the UN Secretary General personally.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held talks with Cyprus Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulidis.
