Kiel / Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The corona lockdown largely brought tourism in the north to a standstill in January.

In Schleswig-Holstein, the number of guests fell by 86.5 percent to 44,000 compared to January 2020, as the North Statistics Office announced on Friday.

The number of overnight stays fell by 73.1 percent to 304,000.

49,500 guests arrived in Hamburg in January, 89.5 percent fewer than in the same month last year.

They stayed 140,500 times.

That means a decrease of 84.6 percent.

The statistics include overnight stays in hotels, guest houses and similar facilities with at least ten beds as well as campsites with at least ten parking spaces - but without permanent camping.

According to the statisticians, the ban on accommodation for private guests due to the corona pandemic had a strong impact.
