Protesters storm US Congress

The police then barricaded the main doors to the

House of Representatives plenary hall

They drew their weapons to protect the members of the plenary hall as the crowd gathered outside the door.

At approximately 20:40 Swedish time, members of the House of Representatives received gas masks and were evacuated from the plenary hall through the lower floors of the parliament building.

See the protesters walking around the Capitol

The rebels were in and around the parliament building for several hours until they were taken away by the police.

The National Guard of the states of District of Columbia and Virginia were called to the scene to prevent Trump supporters from re-entering the building.

Many police patrolled the area well into the night.

State Mayor Muriel Bowser on Wednesday issued a curfew that runs from 6pm on Wednesday to 6am on Thursday local time and a state of emergency is valid for two weeks.
