Hamburg (dpa) - HSV coach Daniel Thioune does not want to emotionally exaggerate the duel with his ex-club VfL Osnabrück.

"It's not a game against myself. But one against my past," Thioune said before the game of his Hamburger SV on (today) Monday (8.30pm / Sky) the "kicker".

The native of Osnabrück and long-time VfL player and coach led Lower Saxony from the 3rd division to the 2nd division 21 months ago.

With his new club, Thioune (46) is aiming for promotion to the Bundesliga.

«When our life slowed down a lot during the first lockdown, I gave concrete thought to what my next step might look like.

I want the regular playing time on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., I want to be a coach in the Bundesliga, ”he said.

He is sure that the timing of his move from Osnabrück to HSV was “the right one”.

"Yet there is still a lot of me in there," said Thioune.
