• Courts: The Prosecutor's Office supports the precautionary measure to hold the Catalan elections in February

The Catalan elections will be in three weeks.

The contention chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) maintains the electoral convocation decree of February 14 in Catalonia as a precautionary measure after deliberating on the appeals filed against the Generalitat decree that suspended the convocation for this date and set a new by the end of May due to the situation of the coronavirus pandemic.

The court has decided to "maintain the suspension of Decree 1/2021, of January 15, agreed in an Order dated January 19, 2021, which renders the holding of the elections to the Parliament of Catalonia of February 14 without effect of 2021 due to the health crisis derived from the pandemic caused by COVID-19 ".

In this way, the date of February 14, 2021 for the holding of elections is kept as a precaution while the appeal is processed, which will be announced, foreseeably, this Friday.

In addition, for reasons of urgency, it shortens the processing of the claim and gives the parties four days instead of the eight established by law to present their arguments, in order to have a sentence before February 8.
