Hanover (dpa / lni) - With the timetable change this Sunday, commuters in some regions of Lower Saxony can look forward to improvements.

The regional transport company announced that the Uelzen-Gifhorn-Braunschweig regional train will run every hour instead of every two hours.

In addition, the Rötgesbüttel station received a siding so that the trains can meet there on a single-track route.

"With a good offer, we improve mobility and convince citizens to switch to the train more often," said Transport Minister Bernd Althusmann (CDU).

"With the hourly service on the route from Braunschweig to Uelzen, there is now a real alternative to the B4."

Commuters in particular would gain time.

Trains from Braunschweig to Herzberg now also run every hour on Sundays in order to better connect the southern Harz to leisure traffic.

This was also made possible by the commissioning of digital interlockings in the Harz Mountains.

Individual additional pairs of trains are also inserted between Uelzen, Stendal and Magdeburg.

In southern Lower Saxony there are improvements in regional traffic towards northern Hesse.

The trains from Göttingen via Eschwege to Bebra will in future run every hour.

There is a half-hourly service between Göttingen and Kassel during rush hour.

In long-distance traffic, there are individual additional pairs of trains that better connect Lower Saxony.

An additional ICE commutes between Hamburg and Munich from Monday to Friday, with stops in Lüneburg, Uelzen, Celle, Hanover and Göttingen.

There is an additional ICE in the morning rush hour from Hanover via Wolfsburg to Berlin.

On Saturday evenings an additional ICE runs from Berlin via Braunschweig, Hildesheim and Göttingen to Kassel, and it goes back on Sunday morning.

To meet the trend towards more tourism in one's own country, improvements are being made on the Emsland route towards the coast.

Some IC trains between Cologne and the Ruhr area and Norddeich, which previously only ran on weekends in the summer season, will now commute all year round.

In addition, new trains are increasingly being used on important connections.

ICE 4 trains with more seats and the option of taking bicycles along are gradually being used on the ICE line Berlin-Cologne / Düsseldorf.

From June onwards, the new XXL-ICE with 13 cars and 918 seats will be launched on the Hamburg-Frankfurt-Switzerland route.

For young adults in Lower Saxony there is also the U21 leisure card for regional traffic from Sunday on, which is valid from 2 p.m. on and on weekends, public holidays and all school holidays in Lower Saxony.

For 29 euros per month or as an annual subscription for 25 euros per month, those under the age of 21 can travel with the ticket, which is also valid for trips to Bremen, Hamburg, Hengelo and some neighboring stations in North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse.

In the meantime, a price increase in the Lower Saxony tariff was waived in regional traffic.

The ticket prices for regional trains in Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg will therefore remain unchanged.
