Rostock (dpa) - The sea rescue organization Sea-Eye christened its fourth ship in Rostock on Sunday.
According to the initiators, the "Sea-Eye 4" will start its service in the Mediterranean in spring.
Since October she has been converted into a rescue ship by hundreds of volunteers.
The now 19-year-old Alpha Jor Barry acted as godfather.
According to the information, the young man from Sierra Leone, who has been living in Slovenia for more than a year, was rescued in the Mediterranean by the "Alan Kurdi" at the end of 2018.
He and 16 other people had fled Libya, a country with civil war, in a small fishing boat.
The aid organization, which is based in Regensburg in Bavaria, is currently on the move in the Mediterranean with “Alan Kurdi”.
The Greens politician and Bundestag Vice President Claudia Roth said, according to the announcement, the christening of the ship is an important sign of solidarity, humanity and the practical advocacy of human rights.
"Wherever the European governments fail to meet their responsibilities, it is the civilian sea rescuers who uphold the fundamental values of the European Union and human rights," she said.
Roth is a member of Sea-Eye himself.
"My greatest respect and thanks go to the many committed people at sea who bravely and undeterred every day to save human lives."

The "Sea-Eye 4" is reportedly the largest ship that the organization has sent on a rescue mission to date.
She is also the second alliance ship that has been largely financed by the civil sea rescue alliance "United4Rescue" initiated by the Evangelical Church of Germany (EKD).
