Pope Francis I condemned the storming of the Capitol building in Washington last week and called on people to reject such violence.
In an interview with TG5, the Pope said that there will always be people who oppose society, democracy and the common good.
He stated that he was surprised by the events in Washington, but it was easy to see what led to them.
He urged people to learn from the situation and from history so as not to repeat it.
The Pope added, "Such groups of people are not integrated into society. Sooner or later, such violence is bound to disappear."
