Fürth (dpa / lby) - The number of corporate bankruptcies in Bavaria is low despite the Corona crisis.

In January 2021, 138 Bavarian companies filed for bankruptcy in the courts, and in December there were 168, the Bavarian State Office for Statistics announced on Tuesday in Fürth.

Between March and September 2020, the obligation to file for bankruptcy was suspended in order to mitigate the economic consequences of the corona crisis.

In September, the number of corporate bankruptcies in the Free State reached its lowest level at 121, according to statisticians' data.

But even after that, the number of companies filed for bankruptcy remained “unusually low”, according to the state office.

Of the 138 bankruptcy applications that Bavarian companies filed in January 2021, a total of 708 employees were affected.

The number of other insolvency applications - for example from private individuals or formerly self-employed - has been increasing steadily since October 2020, as the state office further announced.

In September 2020, their number had reached its low of 230, in January 2021 it was 721. However, that is still one percent less than in the same month last year.
