It is reported that Vorkuta set up a residential area in 1931, and after the construction of the mining railway, the coal industry developed rapidly.
However, since the local steel industry was shut down, the people living along the coal mines moved out one after another.
Public transportation between small towns in the city was also suspended due to extreme weather. Only a few families still live here, but most of them have moved outside the Arctic Circle.
