This was reported by the press service of the Black Sea Fleet.

“The crew of the frigate“ Admiral Grigorovich ”of the Black Sea Fleet paid a visit to Port Sudan, where, by agreement between Russia and the Republic of Sudan, a logistics center for the Russian Navy will be created.

The ship of the Black Sea Fleet made a call to Port Sudan for the first time in the modern history of Russia, ”TASS reports.

The Black Sea Fleet added that the creation of a support point for the Russian Navy in Sudan "meets the goals of maintaining peace and stability in the region, is defensive in nature and is not directed against other states."

"Within the framework of the visit, it is planned to replenish the material stocks of the frigate and rest the personnel after participating in the multinational naval exercise AMAN-2021 (AMAN-2021) in the Arabian Sea," the Black Sea Fleet quoted Interfax as saying.

In November 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to sign an agreement with Sudan on the creation of a support point for the Russian Navy in this country.

According to Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin, Moscow is interested in a military presence in the region in order to fight terrorism, piracy, the slave trade, and the smuggling of weapons and drugs.
