They are only nine in the race.

This Monday, the Ministry of Culture revealed the cities or agglomerations retained in the final list to designate the first “French capital of culture” in 2022.

Angoulême (Charente), Brest (Finistère), Laval (Mayenne), Le Mans (Sarthe), Metz (Moselle), Saint-Paul de La Réunion (Reunion), Sète (Hérault), Villeurbanne (Rhône) and the community of municipalities of Val Briard (Seine-et-Marne) can still hope to benefit from this label which “is accompanied by funding of one million euros”.

The winner made official in April

"The jury will hear the selected candidates during the last week of March," said the ministry.

The winning community will be announced in early April.

This is the first year that a French capital of culture will be designated.

In the previous round, twenty-nine cities were in the running.
