The Ertzaintza investigates the death of a 56-year-old woman in her home in Sestao (Bizkaia) and the discovery of her husband's corpse floating in the estuary in the same Biscayan town.
As reported by the Security Department,
the first signs point to the murder of the woman
in a case of gender violence.
The alleged aggressor is the 57-year-old husband of the victim, whose body was found this morning, around nine in the morning, floating in the Benedicta dock, in Sestao, near the couple's home, at number 33 of La Iberia de Sestao street.
Hours after this discovery, around one in the afternoon,
the ertzainas moved to the man's home and it was when they found his wife dead
with signs of violence.
Around three in the afternoon the funeral home has arrived at the place.
According to testimonies gathered from neighbors at the scene, the man, who had been unemployed for a long time, killed the woman with an ax.
The man and the woman, who had two grown children and a granddaughter, lived alone.
If it is confirmed that it is a sexist murder, it would be victim number three so far this year, after two women murdered in Andalusia and Madrid last January, according to the statistics of the Government delegation for Gender Violence.
