Grünheide / Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Shortly before the end of the deadline, a security deposit from US electric car maker Tesla for early approval of the further construction of the factory in Grünheide near Berlin is still open.

The talks and votes were ongoing, said the spokeswoman for the Brandenburg Ministry of the Environment, Frauke Zelt, on Friday.

It is about a performance of 100 million euros required by the state for possible dismantling costs.

The early approval concerns the further clearing of forest and the installation of machines for the paint shop.

The final environmental approval is missing so far, so Tesla is building through early approvals.

In December, Tesla had not deposited the performance by a deadline of December 17.

At first, work was suspended, but the company was able to continue building because, according to the Ministry, Brandenburg agreed with Tesla on a longer period until January 15.

In a letter of comfort, Tesla guaranteed the country security for all early permits for construction work.

The Ministry of the Environment was convinced on Wednesday that there would be a solution this week as to how the safety performance could be provided.

Tesla plans to start producing electric cars in Grünheide in July 2021.

Conservationists and residents reject the project at the location and fear negative consequences for the environment.
