The Suzhou Digital RMB Red Packet is officially launched, and "dual offline payment" is temporarily not supported

On the evening of December 11, Suzhou City held the "Digital RMB Red Packet Issuance Launch Ceremony" and the "Double 12 Suzhou Shopping Festival".

This time Suzhou will issue 20 million digital RMB red envelopes, each with an amount of 200 yuan, and the total number of red envelopes is 100,000.

Judging from the number and total amount of red envelopes issued by Suzhou this time, both are twice those issued by Shenzhen before.

Gu Haidong, secretary of the Xiangcheng District Party Committee of Suzhou, said at the launching ceremony that more than 5,000 merchants have opened digital renminbi consumption in Xiangcheng District, accounting for half of the city's digital renminbi consumption merchants.

From 8:00 pm on the 11th to December 28th, Suzhou citizens who have won the digital RMB red envelope can download the "Digital RMB APP" and use the red envelope for consumption.

However, according to a reporter from China Business News, the “dual offline payment” that has received much attention before cannot be used in payment.

How to use digital red envelopes?

According to the "Suzhou Release" information, this digital renminbi consumption red envelope activity is carried out by merchants and designated online e-commerce companies that have completed the upgrade and transformation of digital renminbi payment equipment within the Suzhou city.

There are nearly 10,000 consumer-end merchants in the city that can use digital renminbi to consume red envelopes, covering shopping malls, supermarkets, daily retail, catering consumption, and life services, and achieve coverage of core business circles and key supermarkets in all sectors.

JD.com supports consumers to use digital renminbi to pay when purchasing self-operated goods. This is also the first online scenario in which digital renminbi is connected in the pilot.

A reporter from China Business News came to the Five Star Appliance under JD. The relevant person in charge demonstrated to reporters how to use digital RMB red envelopes in JD APP.

Consumers need to create a sub-wallet in the downloaded "digital RMB app" in advance, and then push the sub-wallet to the JD APP. After selecting the appropriate product in the JD APP's self-operated mall, submit the order and select "Digital RMB" as The payment method is fine.

At the same time, consumers can choose cash on delivery when they consume on the JD APP, and then use digital renminbi to pay after the JD Express brother delivers them to the door. This has also become the first scene in the logistics field to access digital renminbi payment services.

If consumers are the pilot red envelopes opened by six banks of Industry, Agriculture, China, Construction, Communications, and Postal Savings, in addition to JD.com, they can also use digital renminbi to spend on the APP connected to each bank.

At present, ICBC has docked with JD APP, Meituan Bicycle and Didi Chuxing, and is the bank with the most docking platforms.

Bank of China supports Bilibili and JD APP; Construction Bank supports the docking of Shanrong Business and JD APP; Agricultural Bank, China Postal Savings Bank, and Transportation only support the docking of JD APP for the time being.

Merchants are slightly different from consumers in using digital renminbi.

Shen Jingru, the person in charge of Wuyue Plaza in Jingdong Home High-speed Rail New City, told China Business News that merchants must first apply for a public digital renminbi account in order to obtain a POS machine that supports digital renminbi payment.

At the same time, in addition to receiving payments, merchants can also conduct transactions with other merchants that have opened public accounts.

"The use of digital renminbi payment is the same as Alipay and WeChat payment, and the degree of convenience is the same. However, the use of digital renminbi payment can be received in seconds, while other payment methods are not so fast." When asked about using digital renminbi payment Shen Jingru expressed his feelings.

Does not support "dual offline"

A reporter from China Business News came to the merchant site and learned that the previously concerned "dual offline" payment method is temporarily unavailable.

The reporter consulted Shen Jingru and the relevant person in charge of Wuxing Electric. Both said that Jingdong does not support this function for the time being, and the subsequent opening time has not been determined.

Previously, according to media reports, the biggest difference between the digital RMB test in Suzhou and the test in Luohu, Shenzhen is that it can use the two functions of "offline" and "touch."

It is understood that the "dual offline technology" of the central bank's digital renminbi is unique in that even if both parties to the transaction are offline, the transfer transaction can be completed as long as the two mobile phones are touched and the wallet key is exchanged.

Third-party payment tools such as online banking and Alipay need to be connected to the Internet during transactions, otherwise transactions cannot be performed.

However, "dual offline payment" will produce a "double spend problem."

Prior to this, Li Lianxuan, chief researcher of Ouke Cloud Chain Research Institute, said in an interview with a reporter from China Business News that the so-called "double-spending problem" refers to the fact that in the digital currency system, due to the reproducibility of data, the same digital currency is The case of repeated use.

For example, user A has 100 yuan in the digital wallet, and user A has two mobile phones. In the offline state, user A logs into the digital wallet on the first mobile phone and transfers 100 yuan to user B; then user A passes through The two mobile phones log in to the digital wallet again and pay user C100 yuan, which is equivalent to user A using only 100 yuan twice.

From a theoretical point of view, the "double spending problem" may not be solved in the "dual offline" state.

The current central bank's digital currency technology patents have not yet explained how to solve the "double spending problem" in the dual offline situation, and we need to wait for more technology patent information disclosure in the future.

However, the hypothetical premise of the "double-spending problem" is that users have malicious motives and abilities. In reality, the law and supervision can be used to curb malicious behavior, or strict recourse can be made after the "double-spending" occurs.
