Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - Regensburg is nationwide the city with the most single households.

This was the result of a study by the Society for Consumer Research (GfK) based in Nuremberg.

In the past few years the city had already taken the top spot with a population of around 150,000.

In 2020, only one person lived in 57.3 percent of Regensburg households.

The fewest single-person households were in the Straubing-Bogen district in Lower Bavaria, at 30.2 percent.

According to GfK, the share of single households nationwide is 41.8 percent.

The proportion of single-person households in Germany has been increasing for years.

Behind Regensburg follow Erlangen, Würzburg, Flensburg and the capital Berlin in places two to five.
