Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's cities and municipalities have applied to the state government for the early opening of primary schools - without changing operations.

Alternating operation with parallel emergency care would "cause great confusion (and) cause maximum organizational effort," says a letter sent to Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) and Minister of Education Susanne Eisenmann (CDU) on Friday and that the dpa is available.

In the case of alternating operations, only half classes are allowed to come to the schools.

According to the letter, this would mean that children from the other half of the class would come to emergency care.

As a result, between 70 and 90 percent of the children could ultimately be in schools, it said.

Instead, the municipalities and counties are in favor of regular operation under pandemic conditions, as already existed in summer 2020.

For example, care groups had to remain separate from one another.

Baden-Württemberg's state government is planning to gradually open daycare centers and primary schools from February 1, provided that the number of infections allows.

So far, alternating operations have been planned for the primary schools.
