Jena (dpa / th) - According to the State Office for the Environment, Mining and Nature Conservation, the amounts of snow in Thuringia have only decreased slightly since the beginning of the week, despite the mild temperatures.
Especially in the Thuringian Forest and a strip from Jena in the southeast to Sondershausen in the northwest, there are still large amounts of snow, as the state office announced on Wednesday.
Over the next three days it should continue to thaw slowly but continuously.
However, according to the experts' forecasts, the increase is likely to be moderate, so that, based on current knowledge, there is no acute risk of flooding from the snowmelt.
The retention basins and dams of the Thuringian long-distance water supply, which are important for protection against flooding, are ready for use and can absorb meltwater at any time, it said.
The regional association Thuringian Forest announced on its website on Wednesday snow depths of up to 80 centimeters along the Rennsteig.
