Berlin (dpa) - Several federal states have rejected the Bavarian initiative for an FFP2 mask requirement in retail and in local public transport or are skeptical.
"I assume that Lower Saxony would only consider an obligation to wear an FFP2 mask if it is really ensured that all people in Lower Saxony have free access to such a mask," said the Lower Saxony government spokeswoman on Tuesday in Hanover .
A spokeswoman for the State Chancellery in Mainz also told the dpa that such a step is currently not planned in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The Berlin Senate and the Cabinet in Brandenburg did not talk about the topic in their meetings on Tuesday, both countries said.
"Such a mask requirement is currently not provided," said Brandenburg government spokesman.
Saxony's Minister of Health Petra Köpping (SPD) said that the government of the Free State would think about a similar FFP2 mask requirement as that in Bavaria.

The Bavarian cabinet had previously decided that the state will be obliged to wear FFP2 masks in local public transport and retail from next Monday.
Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had declared that the "normal community masks" were there to protect others in the corona pandemic.
FFP2 masks also protect the wearer themselves. The aim is to improve safety in local public transport and in retail.
