Hanover (dpa / lni) - Despite high hygiene standards, several hospitals in Lower Saxony are currently affected by corona outbreaks.

In the meantime, over 40 employees and patients at the Helios Klinikum Nienburg have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The clinic sees this as a mirror of developments in the Nienburg district and, according to its own information, has tightened its security measures again.

"50 to 60 percent of the infection rate is currently taking place at Helios and in the nursing homes," said district spokesman Cord Steinbrecher.

At the end of the week, 10 of the 28 care facilities in the district were affected.

In the Deister-Süntel-Klinik in Bad Münder (Hameln-Pyrmont district) there has been a temporary admission freeze since Thursday.

21 of the approximately 140 employees and 13 patients had tested positive by then.

The increased number of infections in the district are due, among other things, to the outbreak in the clinic, said a spokeswoman for the authorities in Hameln.

However, there are also outbreaks in outpatient care services and in large families.

In contrast to the nursing homes, the Ministry of Health in Hanover has no separate statistics on corona outbreaks in hospitals.

The Lower Saxony Hospital Society also has no such overview.

Helios operates 13 clinics across the country.

"We had to record corona outbreaks at seven of our Lower Saxony clinics, but these were always limited to one to a maximum of three stations," said a company spokeswoman.

There, 186 adults and two children have to be ventilated.

According to the hospital society, the situation remains tense.
