Hamburg (dpa) - Professional sailor Boris Herrmann sees problems with the organization and financing of the campaign for participation in the next Vendée Globe in four years.

“The skipper's dream is always to have planned the next four years before the start of the race.

But very few succeed.

Over the years I find planning such a race to be much more exhausting than the race itself, ”said Herrmann in an interview with the“ Hamburger Abendblatt ”(Friday).

His yacht "Seaexplorer" was as good as sold, he said.

"It will only be difficult if we sell the 'Seaexplorer' now and the plans for a new ship fail."

The fifth of the circumnavigation Vendée Globe prefers a new building.

His team has put strength, work and money into the project and is at the limit.

At the moment he is “terribly tired”.

He often wakes up at night and is “just totally exhausted,” reported the 39-year-old.

"It is said, however, that recovery from such a strain takes about as long as the race itself," said Hermann.

He did not use his “fabulous equipment on board” intensively.

“There was a 360-degree camera, two drones, and a special rear-view camera - to name just a few of the things.

To be honest, in the end I only did about ten percent of what we had planned, ”said Herrmann.

"The race was so tough and demanded so much from me that in reality I found little time to use all this great equipment."

In May, the native of Oldenburg, who lives in Hamburg, wants to take part in a European pre-regatta for the Ocean Race 2022, which will lead from France via four stations into the Mediterranean.

The Imoca monohull yachts are sailed by four-man crews.

At the end of the year he plans to participate in the transatlantic regatta Transat Jacques Vabre, also in a team.
