Polch / Mainz (dpa / lrs) - When it comes to first vaccinations against Corona, Rhineland-Palatinate is still in the top group, when it comes to second vaccinations it is ahead of the rest of the country.

By the end of March, around 400,000 people are said to have had their first and around 190,000 their second injection.

"We then vaccinated around ten percent of all Rhineland-Palatinate residents and doubled the number in March," said Prime Minister Malu Dreyer on Rose Monday.

Dreyer and Health Minister Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler (both SPD) visited the Mayen-Koblenz vaccination center in Polch, where several people were vaccinated with the third approved vaccine from Astrazeneca.

These vaccinations began on Saturday for people under 65 years of age, who, according to federal regulations, belong to the first priority group.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, 252,018 doses had been vaccinated by Sunday.

3.7 percent of Rhineland-Palatinate residents have already received their first spades, which puts the state above the national average of 3.3 percent and after Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (3.9 percent) and Thuringia (3.8 percent) together with Bremen third place.

A second vaccination was given to 2.5 percent of people, more than in any other federal state.

The national average is 1.7 percent.

Dreyer and Bätzing-Lichtenthäler appealed to all people in the group with the highest priority who have not yet registered for a vaccination: “Register now.

If you are under 65, you may be offered a vaccination at short notice.

For older people, appointments are made in March. "

In addition to those over 80, the group also includes employees from rescue and care services, vaccination centers and mobile vaccination teams, as well as hospital employees with a particularly high risk of contracting Covid-19.
