Reuters: Insurance against the risk of "Covid-19" becomes a travel necessity

The trend towards issuing insurance policies for "Covid-19" as one of the requirements for vacationing abroad increases, which creates opportunities for insurance companies at a time when more countries require compulsory insurance coverage in the event that the visitor is infected with the "Corona" virus.

Airline bookings are increasing in some areas, raising cautious hopes for a summer travel recovery, but also fueling fears in tourist destinations that they will incur high costs if vacationers are stranded by the virus.

Those in charge of one of the emergency services plans told "Reuters" that more than a dozen countries require "Covid-19" insurance coverage for visitors, and that Jordan is the latest country to study such protection.

A travel insurance advisor with companies including AXA and AIG, Robin Engel, said that the total value of the market for insurance against the risks of "Covid-19" during travel is between 30 and 40 billion dollars annually.

Dan Richards, CEO of Global Rescue, a travel risk and crisis management company, said, "Travel insurance and protection services are launched in conjunction with the resumption of travel."

Covid-19 insurance usually covers treatment worth up to 100,000 dollars, and can include costs and tests for the "Corona" virus and services such as evacuation, local burial or cremation.

These documents, which insurance companies have started to provide since mid-2020, are sold either as additional insurance services or as part of separate policies with coverage for the costs of sickness or quarantine treatment.
