• Covid. 11 deceased by an outbreak in a residence in Becerril de la Sierra

  • Direct. Last minute on the coronavirus

The

48 elderly people of the Vigor residence

, in the Madrid municipality of Becerril de la Sierra, had received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at the beginning of the month.

In the midst of the hopeful immunization process, this private center has suffered the blow with the outbreak of the coronavirus, which has left a devastating balance:

all of them have been infected

, 11 inmates have died and, according to the latest balance, another four remain admitted, of which two have a "clinically worrisome" condition.

Another 10 older people have died in a month after another outbreak originated in the

Los Nogales Puerta de Hierro center

, located in the Pilar neighborhood of the capital, where there are eight infected users, two of them hospitalized, who are progressing favorably.

There were also transferred several residents of the nursing home on Toledo Street affected by the gas explosion in a nearby building on January 21.

Despite these two outbreaks, which leave 21 dead, the Minister of Social Policies, Javier Luengo, ensures that

the situation is "relatively controlled"

in residences during this third wave and that most are "isolated cases."

Currently, there are 513 positives identified out of a total of 37,200 residents, 1.3% of the total, and only in 32 of the 475 public, concerted and private facilities are visits and outings prohibited due to the detection of an outbreak.

Since the start of the de-escalation after the state of alarm in March, the organization of these social health resources has been regulated by strict mandatory protocols.

The last one, on January 11, was updated after the start of the vaccination process in them, which has already been

practically 100% completed in the first dose

and it is expected that in a maximum of three weeks it will be completed and with it the population most vulnerable to the virus is fully immunized.

In the first wave of the pandemic, the Covid was primed with homes throughout Spain and with special virulence in those of the Community of Madrid:

at least 4,800 elderly people died

after being infected or with symptoms compatible with the disease.

Lack of PPE

Although visits to nursing homes were prohibited on March 8, even before the closure of schools in the region and the declaration of a state of alarm in the country, the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) for workers led to the spread among inmates.

Added to this

was the collapse of hospitals

in the first peak of infections and the sending of an instruction in which the entry of the elderly who had a certain degree of disability was prohibited.

The Ministry of Health has always denied that such a guideline was applied, arguing it with figures of

the transfers that did take place during the most dramatic days

of the first stake of the pandemic.

On the other hand, the Association of Dependency Services Companies, which brings together the main groups in the sector, denounced that from the beginning there had been "the non-admission or limitation in the referrals that had to be made."

One visit a week

Now residences have to carry out a weekly screening of their workers, who already

have the appropriate personal protective equipment

, and hospitals, although with high occupancy, are not at the level of March.

For the admissions of new inmates, a PCR test must be presented a maximum of 78 hours in advance and, if it is positive, they are referred to the isolation resource that the Policy Department has enabled in the event that the center cannot divide Covid from non-Covid zones.

Visits are limited to

one hour a week and one person

, which is recommended to always be the same, as long as there is no outbreak, in which case they are interrupted.

In addition, the elderly can make two weekly outings in the surroundings, but they cannot spend the day with relatives.
