Berlin (dpa / bb) - The corona rapid tests at Berlin schools and daycare centers are to begin on Monday.

Teachers and other school staff as well as educators are tested twice a week.

Participation is voluntary, said Education Senator Sandra Scheeres (SPD) on Friday when the concept was presented in the elementary school on Koppenplatz in Berlin-Mitte.

The tests are to be carried out by employees of the schools and daycare centers, such as teachers or educators who have been trained for this.

Scheeres said that the first training courses had already been held by several aid organizations coordinated by the German Red Cross (DRK) Berlin.

It is planned that 75 training teams will offer more than 2000 training courses in 10 days.

The first tests are already planned for Monday when the first to third grade students come back to schools in Berlin.

“We're going in two phases,” said Scheeres.

In phase two, self-tests are then planned, which can also be used by schoolchildren at home twice a week and which they can pick up in schools.

“The problem is that the self-tests have not yet been approved,” said Scheeres.
