Hanover (dpa / lni) - Deutsche Bahn's regional and long-distance traffic is expected to remain disrupted in Lower Saxony for hours.

"The situation has not yet relaxed, especially around Hanover and Hildesheim," said a company spokeswoman on Monday in Hamburg.

It is true that individual routes could possibly be reopened gradually.

An improvement in the weather situation and thus a normalization in driving operations can be expected from Monday afternoon at the earliest, it said.

Frozen switches, frozen overhead lines and snow drifts still make many routes impassable.

During the night and on Monday there were numerous exploration and clearance trips.

"There where the trains with a snow blower drove through, it blew right back on the tracks afterwards," said the spokeswoman.

With the exception of the regional trains on the RE5 line between Cuxhaven and Hamburg, DB's local traffic in Lower Saxony and Bremen will remain suspended.

Trains are also canceled in long-distance traffic to and from Hanover.

In addition, rail traffic between Germany and the Netherlands has ceased.

On Monday morning, the situation on the lines of the railway companies Metronom, Enno and Erixx was still tense.

Due to the heavy snowfall, which in some cases continued, there are restrictions on all routes.

Before starting their journey, passengers should find out whether the trains are actually running according to schedule.
