Portugal's handball team goalkeeper Alfredo Quintana has been hospitalized after cardio-respiratory arrest in training on Monday, his club FC Porto has announced.

“He was immediately assisted by an emergency medical team.

Once his situation stabilized, he was transported and then admitted to Sao Joao hospital in Porto, ”FC Porto said in a brief statement.

"FC Porto will give new information on its clinical situation as soon as it has it", added the club where Quintana has played since 2010. Aged 32 and Cuban by birth, Quintana participated in January in the 2021 World Championship in Egypt where Portugal finished in 10th place.

Portugal will face France, Croatia and Tunisia from March 12-14 in Montpellier in the Olympic qualifying tournament for the Tokyo Games.
