The COVID-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University has been given the green light in the UK.

"The government today accepted the recommendation from the Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) to approve the Oxford University / AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for use," the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.

Great Britain is the first country in the world to have approved the comparatively cheap Oxford vaccine. The regulatory approval is a welcome boost for AstraZeneca and the Oxford team, who have been accused of lacking clarity about the results of late-stage studies. The European Medicines Agency (EMA), on the other hand, considers AstraZeneca's corona vaccine to be approved in the European Union in January as unlikely.
