Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Ministry of Economic Affairs supports several research projects on quantum computing.
Economics Minister Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut (CDU) said on Thursday in Stuttgart that quantum technologies offer enormous opportunities for the economy.
"The projects are an important building block to further strengthen the existing ecosystem for this future technology from universities, research institutes, start-ups and companies in Baden-Württemberg."
For a period of two years there are more than 19 million euros in funding for six collaborative research projects.
Scientists have been looking for new ways in computer technology for decades.
They hope that quantum computers will enable certain arithmetic tasks to be carried out many times faster than with conventional computers.
In the various research projects, scientists from a total of six Fraunhofer institutes work together with 16 other university, university and non-university institutes in the state as well as around 40 associated corporate partners from Baden-Württemberg and Germany.
