Mainz (dpa / lrs) - Unlike the Bavarians, the people of Rhineland-Palatinate do not have to prepare for an imminent FFP2 mask requirement when shopping and in local public transport.

Such a step is currently not planned in Rhineland-Palatinate, said the spokeswoman for the state chancellery, Andrea Bähner, on Tuesday the German press agency.

The Bavarian cabinet had previously decided that the state will be obliged to wear FFP2 masks in local public transport and retail from next Monday. Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had stated that the "normal community masks" were there to protect others in the corona pandemic. FFP2 masks also protect the wearer themselves. The aim is to improve safety in local public transport and in retail.
