Pope's appeal for the release of 317 students kidnapped in Nigeria

February 28, 2021 - More than 300 female students kidnapped in Jangebe, in the state of Zamfara in Nigeria, were released.
David Otto Endeley, international consultant for anti-terrorism confirmed this to the CGTN broadcaster.
The same source then specified that the young women were transferred to the palace of the Emir of Anka and from here their trip to Gusau, the state capital, will be organized.
The 317 girls were kidnapped on Friday by gunmen who broke into their secondary school.
According to Naija News, the students were released this morning by their kidnappers.

According to the reconstruction of the facts, the students were held hostage in a forest between Dangulbi and Sabon Birnin Banaga, in the area administered by the Maru government.
At the moment, Naija News points out, it is unclear whether a ransom was paid to secure their release.
This morning, at the end of the Angelus, Pope Francis had condemned the "cowardly kidnapping" and asked the faithful to pray for a prompt return home for the students.
