Mainz (dpa) - The new coach Bo Svensson receives a long-term contract with Bundesliga soccer club FSV Mainz 05 until 2024 and should remain head coach even in the event of a possible relegation, said sports director Christian Heidel at the presentation of the Dane.

«The contract period is long.

We want to start a new project.

The contract is valid for both leagues, 1st and 2nd Bundesliga, »said Heidel, who himself only returned to Rheinhessen during the short Christmas break.

The Mainz team had confirmed Svensson the day before as the successor to Jan-Moritz Lichte and want to stay in class with the 41-year-old.

Heidel said the signing of Svenssons was "an important piece of the puzzle" for him to get back into Mainz himself.

"Everyone knows my attitude, I've always said: The coach is the most important person in the club," said the 57-year-old Heidel.

Bo is “a piece of Mainz 05” and is “now back home”.

The Dane played for the club from 2007 to 2014.
