Erfurt (dpa / th) - In Thuringia, more young people are interested in a nursing profession.
According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, 1,639 school leavers began training in hospitals or care facilities in the 2020/21 training year.
That is around 400 more than a year earlier with 1209 nursing trainees and around 600 more than in the 2018/19 class.
The ministry's figures show that there is an upward trend with nursing trainees in both geriatric care and hospitals.
This autumn, 841 trainee nurses began their training in geriatric care and 798 in hospitals, compared with 641 and 568 a year earlier.
In view of the increasing need for skilled nurses, clinics and geriatric care providers have been campaigning heavily for trainees for years - including abroad.
