Munich (dpa / lby) - Since Bavaria's first hate speech officer Klaus-Dieter Hartleb took office, the authorities have initiated more than 1,600 investigations into hate postings on the Internet.
1648 procedures were exactly, as Bavaria's Justice Minister Georg Eisenreich (CSU) said.
"Anyone who wants to protect freedom of expression and democracy must systematically fight hatred online."
Eisenreich and Hartleb want to announce further details today in Munich.
Hartleb has been in office since the beginning of the year.
The same applies to the special departments who are deployed at all 22 public prosecutor's offices in the Free State to deal specifically with the issue of hate online.
Cases of hate speech on the Internet have been systematically recorded since the beginning of 2020.
The vast majority - around 80 percent - are about right-wing extremist statements and sedition.
Above all, politicians, refugees and Muslims would be targeted.
Anti-Semitic statements are also widespread.
"Hate and agitation on the Internet have increased to a terrifying extent," said Eisenreich in December.
«From my point of view, this is a danger to our democracy.
Hatred and agitation poison the social climate in our country. "
