Bad Ems (dpa / lrs) - Despite the Corona crisis, more building permits for new residential buildings were issued in Rhineland-Palatinate last year than in 2019. As the State Statistical Office announced on Friday in Bad Ems, the building supervisory authorities approved the new construction of around 6650 residential buildings with a total of over 14,000 apartments.
That was 7.5 percent more residential buildings and 4.8 percent more apartments than in the previous year.
Accordingly, the number of approved two-family houses increased the most.
The building authorities issued permits for 790 two-family buildings last year - an increase of 11.1 percent.
The number of approved single-family houses rose by 7.5 percent to around 5100. The number of multi-family houses was around 770, 4.3 percent above the previous year's figure.
According to the State Statistical Office, there were around 34 apartments in approved new residential buildings for every 10,000 inhabitants nationwide.
The front runner here is the city of Landau with 69 apartments per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Speyer with 52 apartments as well as Mainz and the Rhein-Hunsrück district with 51 apartments each.
In terms of newly approved apartments, Frankenthal (Pfalz) brings up the rear with only 8 apartments per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Ludwigshafen with 14 apartments.

For the planned construction measures, costs of around 3.03 billion euros were estimated, as the state office further announced.
This corresponds to an increase of 6.7 percent compared to 2019.
