Hahn (dpa) - In the Corona crisis, the Hunsrück Airport Hahn continues to post a plus in the freight business above the industry average with significantly falling passenger numbers.

In January, the freight increased compared to the same month last year by 68.6 percent to 19 194 tons, as the Association of German Airports (ADV) announced on Tuesday.

The airport has a coveted night flight permit.

He also benefits from cargo that would have been flown as an additional cargo on passenger flights without Corona.

However, the number of passengers fell by 81.2 percent to 16 094.

The main owner of the Hunsrück airport, the heavily indebted Chinese group HNA, recently filed for bankruptcy.

It is now to be rebuilt.

In 2017, HNA bought 82.5 percent of the former US military airport Hahn from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate for around 15 million euros.

The remaining 17.5 percent are held by the State of Hesse.

Hahn management and the Chinese Consulate General in Frankfurt assured that nothing would change in airport operations.
