Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - The organizers of the Max Ophüls Preis (MOP) film festival in Saarbrücken take stock of the 42nd edition, which took place completely online for the first time due to the corona pandemic.

As they announced on Wednesday, they were able to book around 61,000 hits on all offers in the online edition.

Of these, the streaming platform recorded 39 054 film viewings by 12 795 registered users.

"We are overwhelmed by how much our content has been used and the enormous amount of attention it has given the young German-language film," explained festival director Svenja Böttger.

A total of 11 034 single tickets and 590 festival passes were sold.

For comparison: in the previous year around 45,500 visits and 36,571 tickets were recorded.

The MOP is considered the most important festival for young German-language film.

According to the festival management, around 22,000 users attended the accompanying program at the first online event.

The award ceremony on Saturday alone was followed live by almost 2900 devices and then played by over 5000 users by Wednesday.

According to Böttger, the organizers have learned a lot in this online edition that future editions could certainly benefit from.

"One thing is also certain: We look forward to returning to the Saarbrücken cinemas."
