Hahn (dpa) - Two airports in Hesse are to receive non-refundable Corona million aid - the Hunsrück Airport Hahn, on the other hand, has not yet applied for such aid, according to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
The interior ministry in Mainz announced that Hahn could generally receive operating subsidies until 2024 and thus partially offset operational losses.
"This also applies in principle to corresponding losses that arise due to the corona pandemic," it said.
However, there were no applications for this or other operating aid for 2019 and 2020, the ministry informed the German Press Agency.
The Hahn management did not initially respond to a dpa request.
The state of Hesse recently announced that it would support Frankfurt and Kassel airports in the Corona crisis.
A federal grant totaling 138 million euros is planned for them, which would be doubled by the state and other public airport owners.
The state of Hesse does not see itself as responsible for Hahn Airport in Rhineland-Palatinate, in which it still holds 17.5 percent of the shares.
According to an agreement, Hesse does not pay for any losses here, as the Ministry of Finance announced in Wiesbaden.
In 2017, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate sold its 82.5 percent Hahn shares to the major Chinese group HNA.
This recently filed for bankruptcy.
Creditors requested its realignment.
In accordance with the 2017 sales contract, Rhineland-Palatinate had committed itself to financial aid for operating costs, fire brigade, rescue service and investments totaling a maximum of around 75 million euros for the tap.
According to EU guidelines, this money can flow until 2024.
So far, according to the Interior Ministry, Rhineland-Palatinate has transferred a total of 10.2 million euros in operating aid and 5.1 million euros for security to Hahn for 2017 and 2018, a total of 15.3 million euros.
Since the investigations of the Koblenz public prosecutor's office against three persons responsible for suspected tax offenses, which were initiated in 2020 at six companies at the airport, the state does not want to make any more Hahn payments until the end of the investigation, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
