Munich (dpa / lby) - The mutated corona virus should also be better researched in Bavaria.

Together with the university clinics in the state, the State Office for Health and Food Safety is working on a corresponding concept for sequencing mutating viruses, said Bavaria's Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek (CSU) of the German Press Agency in Munich.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, the sequence of the genetic components is determined during sequencing. Initially, only genome sections that are important for the detection and differentiation of the pathogen variant from related variants are sequenced. If necessary, however, the entire genome of a pathogen can be sequenced in order to obtain information about its properties. With the mutation "B.1.1.7" it is feared that it will spread more rapidly and more rapidly among children.
