Papenburg / Hanover (dpa / lni) - The management of the cruise ship builder Meyer-Werft wants to negotiate directly with the IG Metall coast about austerity measures in the corona pandemic.
A company spokesman in Papenburg said that a procedure according to the so-called Pforzheim Agreement had been applied for.
Economics Minister Bernd Althusmann (CDU) also called this state of affairs on Tuesday in the sub-committee for shipping and ports of the Lower Saxony state parliament in Hanover.
The Pforzheim Agreement of 2004 gives companies the opportunity to negotiate deviations from the collective agreement in emergency situations.

Because the cruise industry is at a standstill in the corona pandemic, the shipyard must extend its construction program until 2025 and save 40 percent capacity.
It wants to cut more than 600 jobs and requires the remaining employees to work 200 unpaid hours a year.
Negotiations with the in-house works council have gotten bogged down.
The workforce is resisting the downsizing.
